Wonder, Princess Peach: Showtime! appears to be packed with big, stage-changing moments.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I really enjoyed the latest Mario game &#8211;\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nintendo.com\/us\/store\/products\/super-mario-bros-wonder-switch\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Super Mario Bros. Wonder<\/a>. It was perhaps the best 2D version of the game to date. Of particular praise was the multiplayer mode, making it feel like all players influenced how the level progressed and the team&#8217;s success or failure. (In other words, think back to Sonic 2 where the 2P joypad could be used to control Tails&#8230; though often useful, the character did not have much agency in the game.). Mario Wonder gives each player agency AND each player can choose their character based on how difficult they want the experience to be. For example, some characters are essentially invincible. Not sure what to expect of Princess Peach Showtime, but if Nintendo are putting as much work into this as they have in their last platformer, we&#8217;re in for a treat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/store.steampowered.com\/app\/2427700\/Backpack_Battles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Battlepack Battles<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>From the steam page: &#8220;A PvP inventory management auto battler! Buy and craft powerful items, then carefully arrange them in your backpack.&#8221; I played a demo of this recently, but it seems to be getting a full release on Steam this month. It&#8217;s a kind of roguelike puzzle game &#8230; thing. (Definitely a genre I enjoy). If the Steam blurb sounds like something you could get into, give it a whirl.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83d\udce1<strong>\u00a0On the Radar<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/store.steampowered.com\/app\/1623730\/Palworld\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Palworld<\/a>\u00a0<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This came out in early access in January. It&#8217;s like Pok\u00e9mon but if Pok\u00e9mon really leaned into the &#8220;enslaving of animals&#8221; vibe that permeates the game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/store.steampowered.com\/app\/2670630\/Supermarket_Simulator\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Supermarket Simulator<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In a world where people would rather be unemployed than work as a clerk in a supermarket, there is a wild irony that this game is blowing up on Steam&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/store.steampowered.com\/app\/2379780\/Balatro\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Balatro<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This game is making the rounds in all the big review sites and podcasts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A\u00a0#roguelike\u00a0deckbuilder game (two of my favourite genres) with lots of replayability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Frank Lanz has likened it to being\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/franklantz.substack.com\/p\/playing-balatro\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Elon Musk on ketamine<\/a>, which is a good thing, maybe..?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Made with\u00a0#Love2D\u00a0and LUA programming language! (#PICO-8\u00a0uses the same language)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\ud83c\udfae In Rotation<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Flipart and the games on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.puzzmo.com\/+\/polygon\/play\/flip-art\/26b92f59\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Puzzmo<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I&#8217;ve been playing many puzzle games recently, mostly of the\u00a0#sokoban\u00a0variant (A post coming next month), so the term &#8220;puzzle&#8221; has been something I keep my eyes open for. The Puzzmo website is a wonderful collection of puzzles that might be familiar to the audience here. Specifically, the following two games, which were enormously successful mobile games by Zach Gage:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SpellTower<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Really Bad Chess<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wait. I looked into the site more.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamesradar.com\/acclaimed-puzzle-designer-known-for-weird-games-gives-wordle-some-competition-i-have-been-working-on-this-project-in-secret-for-almost-2-years\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The whole site is created by Zach Gage<\/a>..!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/store.steampowered.com\/app\/1295320\/Can_of_Wormholes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Can of wormholes<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A\u00a0#sokoban\u00a0like puzzle game where you have to get a worm into a hole. That\u2019s the most basic overview I can give.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Without giving too much away, some verbs that also come up: cut, roll, grow, push, flip, devour (oh, and I\u2019m only 50% through the game).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another really \u2018a ha\u2019 moment is that the spaceship you find yourself in is also worm that can be controlled!! Meta!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lexaloffle.com\/bbs\/?tid=140564\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Oblivion Eve<\/a>\u00a0<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This is an absolutely beautiful\u00a0#roguelike\u00a0action\u00a0#platformer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The developer has squeezed some really interesting mechanics into this tiny game. levelling up, directional air dodge, smash attacks (like smash bros.) and powering up like a Super Saiyan in Dragonball Z.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\ud83c\udd95 On the Shelves Princess Peach Showtime for Switch is a fun, breezy time at the theater &#8211; Polygon &#8220;Like Super Mario Bros.
