My Seminar at Meiji University

Research focus

Students that belong to my seminar are all exploring the application of games and play in educational contexts or society in some way.

Database of game reviews (WIP)

We are working on creating a database of games that we have reviewed. The reviews look at both the entertainment value, historical context, and the educational affordances of each game. The database is also searchable and indexed.

Current research projects

Some of the topics that students are currently researching (as of 2026/01/11):

  • Survive! — a game to learn about disaster preparation. The game also serves as a platform for exploring how different age students engage in collaborative and cooperative actions.
  • Development of a game for junior high and high school students to increase their financial literacy skills.
  • A regional collaborative project in Hidakacho in Hokkaido, increasing awareness of the importance of the horse racing industry in the area.

Past research projects

2025 graduates

  • A board game for learning about supply chain management (with Spectee)
  • A card game for learning English onomatopoeia (experiment completed at Nihon Gakuen)
  • A analog and digital game designed to help first year university students understand how to create their schedules
  • Kanji Domino (Now published as 漢字遊戯): a game for learning about kanji and kanji compounds (experiment complete in Minami Nagareyama)
