Castaway from Space

"A mysterious signal suddenly connects — on the other end is an unidentified girl. A street-walking mystery linking you beyond the known world."

Designed and developed by Meiji University's York Seminar in collaboration with the Masayuki Okuyama Seminar, Castaway from Space (宇宙からの漂流者) is a smartphone web & GPS mystery game that transforms the walk from Takaosanguchi Station to the event cafe into an interactive sci-fi investigation.

How the Game Works

Turning the walk from the station to the cafe into a playable story.

Rather than treating the walk from Takaosanguchi Station to the venue cafe as mere transit time, the York Seminar team designed a location-aware web application that guides players across four real-world observation points (Target 01–04 / 第一観測点〜第四観測点).

  • Live GPS & Map Navigation: Built with OpenStreetMap / Leaflet to show the player's current location, route line, and remaining distance in meters to each observation checkpoint.
  • Story-Driven Communication with "Mira": Players receive transmissions, audio/subtitles, and puzzles from a mysterious girl drifting in space, connecting what they see on the streets of Takao with her story.
  • Safety-First Street Design: Includes built-in pedestrian safety prompts and checkpoint radii so players only interact with their screens when stopped at safe spots away from traffic.
